Some of the industry’s key players gathered together last night to discuss the hot topic of luxury Vs sustainability at The Hotel Design Debate, held at the Roca London Gallery.
In partnership with Roca, Boutique Hotelier hosted a special roundtable event and welcomed around 50 hoteliers and interior designers who came to listen to panellists Chris Burgess from Considerate Hoteliers Association, Charles Leon from Leon Black Interiors, Colin Graham of Boxbuild (Bloc Hotels) and Mark Poulain from Roca bathrooms, share their opinions.
The discussion uncovered some interesting insights, as Colin stated that 99% of guests who stay at Bloc Hotels are not bothered whether the establishment is sustainable or not, while Charles said it was down to the designers to create more sustainable products that still emphasise luxury.
Chris revealed how hoteliers can best market their eco-credentials, before Charles called into question the meaning of the word sustainability and whether luxury and social responsibility can ever go hand in hand.
The debate ran for around 30 minutes before the audience were given a chance to ask questions relevant to their own business needs and fields.
The full report from the debate will be written up in a 4-page special in the November issue of Boutique Hotelier magazine.
