Amazon drops its hotel booking business

Just six months after launching its hotel booking site, Amazing has decided to stop selling hotel reservations altogether.

‘Amazon Destinations’ was first launched in April and was focused on helping Amazon shoppers in select markets find ‘getaway destinations’ for weekend trips.

Now a statement on the online stalwart’s website says that all trading has closed as of October 13 2015.

The website said: “Effective October 13, 2015, Amazon Destinations stopped selling hotel reservations. If you have a reservation, your reservation is valid and will be honored by the hotel. No action is required on your part.”

In addition to closing the site, the company says it has stopped selling reservations in the Amazon Local app as well.

When ‘Amazon Destinations’ launched in April, it offered hotel rooms in just four US cities: Seattle, LA and New York.

Four months after going live, the service was reaching 35 cities and now around half a year later, the service is gone for good.

A company statement said: “We have learned a lot and have decided to discontinue Amazon Destinations.”
