Scottish hotel group Apex Hotels has announced Helen Gallagher as general manager for the brand’s first hotel in the city of Glasgow.
Gallagher has 15 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and will head up the new four-star 104-bedroom hotel on Bath Street when it opens this autumn after an extensive £10.5m refurbishment.
Originally hailing from Glasgow, Gallagher has held positions at The Scotsman, Princes Street Suites, Oban Bay Hotel and Rocco Forte Hotels, among others.
Along with two business degrees, she has also completed the General Managers Programme at Cornell University in York.
The new Apex Glasgow will have 104 bedrooms, located close to attractions like King’s Theatre, Style Mile and SEE Hydro.
The property will mark the ninth in the Apex portfolio when it launches later this year.
Helen comments: “It’s great to be back in Glasgow. The city has such a vibrant personality and there is still a strong feeling of optimism and pride following last year’s Commonwealth Games. The new hotel will be right at the heart of this, in a perfect location to serve Glasgow’s leisure and corporate markets.”
Angela Vickers, CEO of Apex Hotels, commented: “Helen has an excellent reputation in the industry and her experience speaks for itself. We see a significant opportunity in the Glasgow market – the hotel is well-located and we have invested substantially in refurbishing the property to the Apex standard. With 60 new jobs being created, we are building a strong team ahead of our autumn opening.”
