Artist Residence, Pimlico
Opened in: September 2014
Owned by: Justin Salisbury and Charlotte Newey
The story: Justin Salisbury and his partner Charlotte Newey are the young hotelier duo making their mark on the boutique sector with the launch of the Artist Residence in Pimlico. The third hotel addition to the portfolio, the 8-bedroom boutique has set up camp in a three-story Victorian building, and comes complete with its own restaurant 64 Degrees, run by Michael Bremner. The newest Pimlico branch now sits alongside the Artist Residence sister properties in Cornwall and Brighton.
Why we like it: Not only has the project been spearheaded by the young hoteliers, but Charlotte and Justin have designed each room themselves, sourcing furniture from a variety of locations to ensure the space is quirky and oozes personality. The hotel is peppered with contemporary prints from artists throughout and brings a real breath of fresh air to the boutique market. Each item tells a special story, with old tea containers becoming bedside tables and fun touches such as SMEG mini fridges being installed in every bedroom. The Old Cinema in Chiswick and local vintage fairs were prime locations for the couple when searching for those special one-of-a-kind pieces to decorate the hotel’s interiors.
“The aim was to create a fun, design-led environment, which ultimately centres on fantastic service and hospitality,” explains Charlotte. “We’ve sourced furniture from all over – The Old Cinema in Chiswick and various antique fairs – all of which makes each room completely individual.”
