Askham Hall in Cumbria has scooped the prestigious Taste of Cumbria Award at the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2015.
The accolade was handed out to the 13-bedroom boutique at the awards ceremony held this week, which celebrates the best restaurants in the area that are striving to give guests the ultimate ‘taste experience’.
The 13th century Askham Hall, owned by the Lowther family since the 1800s, only opened its doors last year and comprises 13 bedrooms, a restaurant spread through three rooms, private gardens, a spa and converted party barn.
The restaurant is headed up by Cumbrian-born head chef, Richard Swale, who makes use of Askham’s extensive kitchen garden when putting together his menus.
Owner Charles Lowther says: “It is fantastic to given this award, just over 12 months after we fully opened Askham Hall. Having grown up at Askham, it really is close to my heart and its restoration was the culmination of six years of hard work. The whole team is genuinely excited to have been recognised for our high-quality food, service and unpretentious style.”
