Battlesteads Hotel secures £1.25m funding to expand staff accommodation

Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant in Northumberland is putting the wheels in motion for an expansion plan, following the successful approval of a £1.25m funding package.

The award-winning hotel is planning to use the investment from HSBC to add to its management team and acquire two residential properties for staff accommodation.

Owner Richard Slade said: “By investing in two properties near to the business, our staff can live close by and not have to drive to work, which will further help to lower our carbon footprint.

“From the start of the funding process, Baldwins and HSBC’s teams were incredibly helpful. Baldwins was instrumental in accessing the right bank for us and from first contact, HSBC’s team was easy to talk to and quickly understood our objectives and requirements.”

The project would not be the first expansion venture for the ambitious property.

The 22-bedroom property finalised on a restaurant extension in February last year, which saw a £400k project completed to increase capacity at the eatery by an extra 40 covers.

Owners Richard and Dee Slade have invested significantly in the property since 2012, with Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant becoming one of the leaders in sustainable and eco-friendly travel.

The hotel’s 2016 carbon footprint report has revealed that the property’s emissions decreased by 77.5% to just 5.23kg CO2 per room per night within three years.

In 2015, Battlesteads Hotel increased its occupancy with the addition of five new eco-lodges.
