Boutique hotel plans scrapped in favour of high-end bar

Plans for a boutique hotel in Dundee have been put on the scrap heap in favour of a new high end bar and restaurant, if planning permission gets the go ahead.

The original proposal, put forward by developer Cosmo Molinaro, would have seen former jute baron’s mansion Caird Rest, transformed into 13-bedroom boutique hotel.

New plans have now been submitted to the local council for the building, located on Perth Road close to Dundee University, to become a cocktail bar with a Mediterranean-style menu.

Speaking to The Courier, Mr Molinaro said that the initial boutique hotel idea, which had already been approved by planners, had been abandoned after it was felt the building was too small to give the establishment the upmarket feel he desired.

He is now hopeful that planners will give his newest proposal the green light, citing that it will be beneficial for the area.
