Plans for a country house hotel near Durham to extend its ballroom and grounds have been recommended for approval by the local councillors.
Bownburn Hall Hotel, part of the Ramsides Estates Group, is hoping to increase the size of its ballroom and toilet facilities, with a small roof extension and internal alterations, with a ‘significant financial investment’.
The family-run hotel is also proposing a timber decking area be constructed in the rear garden, in a bid to attract more events’ bookings, such as conferences and weddings.
The hotel is set within five acres of land and the project, if given the go ahead, will help provide long-term stability for the business and job creation for the Bowburn and Durham areas.
Despite concerns that the creation of the decking area and an associated pergola would exacerbate an existing noise problem caused by guests of the hotel, the application is recommended for conditional approval in a report to be scrutinised by Durham County Council’s planning committee next week.
Bowburn Hall Hotel is home to 19 bedrooms, a conservatory restaurant and is one of seven venues in the Ramside Estates Group.
