Years of working in the more corporate environment of IHG led Jonathan Walker to yearn for a career in the independent sector. He found his break with The Hotel Collection in February 2015, but departed in December of the same year just prior to the sale of the 10-strong portfolio by owners Lone Star Funds.
Following this, he decided to go it alone and launch his own hospitality consultancy company in November 2015. Step in Ian Taylor, owner of the Abbey Bath and Villa Henrietta, six months later and the offer of a position within his soon-to-launch new boutique hotel and Walker was sold. Taking over the former Carfax Hotel, it took just eight months to completely transform the building into one of the most impressive new properties to open in 2016.
Now he is managing director of Number 15 Great Pulteney, investing whole-heartedly – both commercially and personally – in the success of the brand. Heading up the team at the swish 30-bedroom boutique, Walker is on site everyday managing staff and playing a huge part in the development of the property, from liaising with contractors – a spa and more bedrooms are set to open at the hotel later this year – to meeting and greeting guests; he fully embraces the hands-on approach.
With Number 15 Great Pulteney going from strength to strength as the third hotel in the Taylor portfolio in Bath, wowing both guests and critics, Walker is spearheading this growth and his passion for the property is ensuring his workforce are fired up for business and guests are coming back for more. “Delivering outstanding guest service, while also ensuring a profitable revenue, and receiving guest feedback where they share their memorable experiences is a real motivator,” says Walker.
