Cairn Group behind new £16m four-star Sunderland hotel set for take off in 2018

A plan from developers Cairn Group to create a new £16m four-star, five-story hotel in Sunderland’s Keel Square has been given the green light.

The group will begin work on the new 120-bedroom project in Q1 2018, and will be spread across five floors, as it bids to bring investment into the area.

The ground floor will comprise commercial units and opportunities for food and beverage outlets, providing letting opportunities for both national operators as well as local businesses.

Now the plan has been given the go ahead, a building contractor will need to be secured, as funding, planning permission and legal documentation has all been signed off.

Cairn Group has previously led several hotel regeneration projects investing in the region, including Holiday Inn Jesmond, Holiday Inn Scotch Corner, Mercure Darlington Kings Hotel, Cairn Hotel Newcastle, Rooms Inn Newcastle and DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport.
