The Coaching Inn Group has strengthened its footprint in the UK with the acquisition of its 15th hotel business.
The Group, which is a predominantly freehold estate of pub hotels in towns across England and Wales, has purchased The Swan at Stafford in an off-market deal from the Lewis Partnership.
The acquisition is part of a wider strategy to grow its estate with the takeover of three to four sites per year as it ramps up its expansion plan.
The Swan has been a part of Stafford’s history for over 300 years and has been significantly modernised under the ownership of the family-run Lewis Partnership for the last 17 years.
The property comprises 31 bedrooms, a bar, fine dining restaurant, coffee shop and outside space, while all staff will also remain post acquisition.
Coaching Inn Group is backed by BGF and led by Kevin Charity, and its 14 other hotels span North Yorkshire to Berkshire and Lincolnshire to West Wales.
Supported by BGF, the Group will continue to seek and acquire high quality coaching inns as it looks to further consolidate its highly fragmented market.
It has a strong pipeline of potential additions to its estate.
Kevin Charity, chief executive of Coaching Inn Group commented: “The Swan is exactly the type of property and business that we like to acquire. It has a prominent position in Stafford, it has heritage and it has been lovingly nurtured and developed by its previous owners. It is a gem. We will look after it bringing our experience, systems and capital to take it on the next stage of its journey.”
