Congham Hall in Norfolk has submitted a planning application for an ambitious new expansion, that would see a plethora of new facilities created on site.
The proposal would see seven new bedrooms added, taking the total bedroom stock at the hotel up to 33.
A new spa and gym would also be developed, plus 11 new holiday lodges built in the surrounding parkland.
Despite the hotel saying the project would enhance the area, the plans have been met with opposition from locals, who claim it would ‘devastate’ the historic parkland.
According to Lynn News, dozens have signed a petition against the expansion at Congham Hall, with the area’s MP stating that it would create a ‘mini Center Parcs’ in the village, which would be ‘totally out of place’.
A report submitted with the application however said: “The varied and attractive landscape around the hotel are an important part of its ‘offer’ to guests and day-visitors to the spa.
“A key objective of the development plan is to preserve and enhance these green spaces.”
