Boutique and lifestyle properties figured highly in this year’s Considerate Hotelier Awards held on Friday at London’s Langham Hotel.
Run by the Considerate Hoteliers Association, the shortlist featured a mix of tiny, independent properties and some of the country’s best known hotels including Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.
Top prize – Considerate Hotel of the Year – sponsored by Gram, was carried off by Trenython Manor in Cornwall. The 23-room country house hotel and resort – also won last year’s award for best green marketing initiative.
Trenython’s partnership with the Fowey Festival of Words and Music to develop a sustainable, family-friendly event anchored in the local community was praised by this year’s judging panel.
Central London boutique property The Draycott took this year’s Considerate Marketing Initiative prize in the face of stiff competition from Le Manoir and Strattons.
The Draycott worked in conjunction with Transport for London and the Cycle to Work scheme to offer staff cycle training and storage.
One Aldwych’s and Sustainability Manager Gary Lohan scooped ‘Considerate Champion of the Year’.
In addition to his work as the hotel’s Chief Engineer Lohan has spearheaded the London hotel’s sustainability programme for several years. He is a previous winner of the CHA ‘Good Egg’ award.
Equally dedicated but on a much smaller scale, are John and Cecilia Whitehead, the husband and wife team at Bryn Elltyd Eco Guesthouse in north Wales. They shared the Considerate Green Team of the Year prize for their efforts to achieve carbon neutral status.
