Couple swap retirement for new hotel venture

A couple in Lincolnshire have come out of retirement to take over the running of a hotel in Alford.

Bob and Dawn Gooderson took their retirement age as a time to look for a new challenge, and they found it in the form of the 17 bedroomed Half Moon Hotel and restaurant, close to the Lincolnshire coast.

After searching for a couple of years for the right property, they decided the Half Moon made the perfect business proposition.

The establishment had been run by previous owners Jill and Dave Dixon since 1971, when the Goodersons took the reins.

They now plan to find their feet at the hotel for the first few months before making some changes to how business is run. The couple moved from South Africa to the UK in 200 and previously ran a catering company in Wiltshire.

Speaking to the Skegness Standard, Dawn said: “The moment we stepped through the door it just felt right. We are certainly enjoying life here.”
