David Levin MBE has announced he has sold The Capital and The Levin, his two boutique hotels in Knightsbridge, to Warwick Hotels and Resorts.
The hotelier, who has built and established the Capital Group over the last 50 years, said the ‘difficult’ decision came at the right time, as the market in London becomes ever more competitive.
The Capital and The Levin will now become the first London establishments in the Warwick Hotels and Resorts portfolio. Warwick Hotels and Resorts also take on The London Bakery.
David’s daughter, Kate Levin, who was crowned Independent Hotelier of the Year in 2016 at IHS16, will continue as general manager, while David Levin will become consultant to Mr. Richard Chiu, president & CEO of Warwick Hotels and Resorts.
Both David and Kate have become two of the most respected hoteliers across the UK over the course of their time in the industry, establishing The Capital and The Levin as real pioneers of the boutique sector.
David said: “It was a difficult decision to sell, but Warwick Hotels and Resorts is the right company at the right time in this highly competitive London market. I see this as only positive for all concerned.”
Warwick Hotels and Resorts was founded in 1980 by Mr. Richard Chiu with the purchase of Warwick New York and today comprises 55 hotels and resorts with more than 9,000 rooms worldwide.
“Our group is very pleased with this acquisition, as The Capital Hotel Group headed by David Levin, shares the same hospitality philosophy as Warwick,” said Richard Chiu, president of Warwick. “Being a family business ourselves, we are proud to be able to conclude this transaction with the Levin family and to maintain the family spirit that characterises the two groups.”
The Capital Hotel is also home to Michelin starred Outlaw’s, the only restaurant in London by Nathan Outlaw.
