A boutique hotel in Devon has been named the Most Romantic Hotel in Europe in this year’s 2016 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for Romantic Hotels.
The Old Rectory in Martinhoe beat off stiff competition from hotels in Santorini, Sorrento and Turkey to be named number one in the whole of Europe. The Old Rectory Hotel is a 10-bedroom country house boutique hotel, situated within Exmoor National Park.
Not only that, but The Old Rectory Hotel was crowned number two most romantic hotel in the world, losing out on the top spot to Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort Aruba.
TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice winners are the reviews and opinions collected in one year from TripAdvisor travellers worldwide.
Edgar House in Chester also appeared in the top 10 in Europe, coming in at number five on the love list.
When it came to the UK’s most romantic hotels, this year the title of most romantic destination went to Cumbria, which is home to three of the UK’s top ten romantic hotels.
Grasmere Hotel in Grasmere takes third place in the UK and fourteenth in Europe while Cedar Manor Hotel and Restaurant and Applegarth Villa and Restaurant, both located in Windermere, fifth and ninth place respectively in the UK.
“The results of this year’s awards show that travellers need not travel far to experience some of the best rated romantic getaways in the world – they can be found right here in the UK,” commented James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson.
