The Dorchester’s Alain Ducasse crosses over to retail for sweet new launch

The three-Michelin-starred chef at The Dorchester in London is to start a new venture in the retail sector in London.

French chef Alain Ducasse, who has a total of 19 stars across the globe, is to open his first chocolate shop in the UK in King’s Cross.

Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse will open in October in Coal Drops Yard, a new shopping street adjacent to Granary Square and Regent’s Canal.

Delights on offer includes flavoured ganaches bars and pralines made at Ducasse’s workshop in Paris.

There he works with Nicolas Berge to source cocoa beans from around the world and develop new recipes.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Ducasse said: “After Paris and Tokyo, I am delighted to bring Le Chocolat to London.

“Coal Drops Yard was a natural fit, fusing the traditional with the contemporary — the perfect setting for my chocolate, the fruit of a precise craft itself.”

Coal Drops Yard will accommodate 50 independent stores, cafes and bars, including Paul Smith, Lost Property of London and Universal Works.
