The Sherborne Hotel is set to be demolished to make way for a new boutique hotel and food outlet, in plans revealed by the new owners of the Dorset hotel.
The proposal, submitted to the Sherborne Chamber of Trade and Commerce on Tuesday, would see the existing hotel knocked down and replaced with an upmarket, smaller boutique hotel and restaurant.
The Sherborne Hotel is now owned by the Quantum Group, who will make a time scale for the demolition work available in the next few weeks and confirmed that the site will remain vacant until new building work can commence at the end of the year.
Speaking to Western Gazette, Andrew Maddock, chairman of the chamber welcomed the opportunity to have open discussions as there has been considerable speculation as to the future of the site.
He said: "We can now feel more positive about the project. The devil is of course in the detail but Quantum already knows it cannot afford to underestimate the force of opposition that the town has already shown it can harness.”
