The Windermere is a London-based family-run business established in the late 1980s with Emily Hambi, co-owner taking over from her parents in 2009. Her mother Sylvia set up The Windermere Hotel following a successful, but unfulfillled career in banking.
Probably her most ambitious project to date, Hambi oversaw the hotel’s renovation in 2012, which saw many of the building’s original features restored and a lift installed. Supporting the ‘best of British’ each of the 19 bedrooms have been designed by the Hambi family.
Hambi has the familial passion for hotels. From a very young age, this was her calling and the hospitality industry was her natural habitat. Emily completed her undergraduate degree in subjects close to her heart (namely French, politics and history), but her MBA was at a top Swiss hotel school.
Her intuitive sense of accommodation was further developed from extensive travels, culminating in The Windermere Hotel winning several awards, including AA Guest Accommodation of the Year.
The hotel is prolific on social media and Instagram and racks up consistent positive reviews on TripAdvisor, often quoting the unique, personal hospitality provided by Emily and her team.
Hambi says: “I like talking to people…I work hard now, but I love it’, the human aspect dominates the design of the customer experience.”
