A business boom in South Essex has increased the demand for hotel rooms and led the owner of a boutique hotel on Canvey Island to bid for expansion.
Members of Canvey Town Council have thrown their support behind the new project, which will see seven new rooms added to the Oysterfleet Hotel.
If given the go ahead, the hotel, which has been enjoying strong trade since it opened four years ago, would be able to host more visitors on the Island and as a result help boost tourism in the area.
Popular for parties and large functions, the new plan would see the Oysterfleet Hotel convert roof space to create an extra seven bedrooms, adding to the existing 40.
The application will be formally decided on next month by Castle Point Council.
Simon Matthews, general manager at the hotel said he is confident that if the projects gets the green light he will be able to make it a success.
He added: “The business has been booming for about four years now.
“During the week, we are often fully booked and at weekends we have a lot of weddings and functions booked in.
“We are sure we will be able to fill the extra rooms, if the plans go ahead.”
