Bloc Hotels is eyeing 10 new hotels across the UK and abroad within the next five years, according to director Colin Graham.
The brand, which operates affordable hotels built from prefabricated shells, launched its first property in Birmingham in 2010.
It will open its second hotel, the 245-key Bloc Gatwick, at Gatwick Airport sitting on top of the South Terminal in 2014.
“There are a few sights in London we’re looking at – none have crystallised yet, but Central London will be the next one. We hope to have five or six [hotels] in London; anywhere near a tube station with restaurants and bars around would be fantastic,” Graham told Boutique Hotelier.
He added that the group was also looking at sites in the US, and Barcelona and Madrid in Spain.
The brand distinguishes itself on high-end design and claims to offer properties with the most advanced integrated technology of any hotel in the country.
Guests at Bloc Gatwick can book the property, check in and enter using their own NFC-enabled smart phones, with rates starting at £59.
Once in the room, a Bloc mobile app will enable smart-phone users to control room features such as multi-layered lighting, Samsung air-conditioning, electric blackout blinds and Samsung Smart LED TVs. Alternatively they can use the Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 tablet present in every room to do the same.
Other features will include free wifi, king-sized beds, Roca monsoon drench showers and Missoni-designed Swedish Bolon flooring.
