Demand for new luxury London boutique hotel, The Lalit, has rocketed pre-opening, with the property receiving more than 60 booking enquiries per day.
The new hotel, which is the first overseas property from Indian hotel brand, The Lalit Suri Group, is due to open on February 15, and general manager Arun Kumar revealed exclusively to Boutique Hotelier that anticipation has been through the roof, with daily enquiries reaching between 60 and 70 for the bedrooms and more than 30 for the restaurant per day.
“We’ve even had to start turning some business down! It’s been amazing, enquiries have been flooding in, it’s been overwhelming,” Kumar tells BH.
The Grade-II listed property and former grammar school has been transformed over an extensive five-year period and is a fusion of Indian culture and style with British modern design, with 95% of the original 180-year-old building being restored during the £50m renovation process.
The hotel is home to 70 bedrooms – aptly dubbed ‘classrooms’ – a total of four F&B outlets including the main Indian-themed restaurant Baluchi and a cocktail bar, which has been created in the former governor’s room.
There are also four treatment rooms and a gym which has been built two floors below ground.
The former headmaster’s office is home to a showstopping suite, with views over London.
“The design is a fusion of Indian style and modern British class,” explains Kumar. “Each decision has been made with a reason behind it and a lot of love has gone into the project. Our owners are visionary and what they have done is amazing, I’m very privileged to be a part of it.”
The Lalit London will become one of 13 hotels operational in The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, India’s largest and fastest growing privately owned hotel company, but the only hotel not situated India. The brand already has another 6-8 hotels in India in the pipeline, with more planned for Europe, the UK and more specifically London.
