The Cranleigh Boutique in Cumbria was recently announced as the winner of the Best Use of Facebook title at the UK Social Media Awards 2014. We caught up with owner Stephen Hargreaves to discover exactly why they won.
Why do you think you won the award for social media recently?
We won the award for how we have used social media to positively impact our company. We developed a Facebook strategy that turned followers into people who book to stay with us.
Can you describe how your interactions on Facebook are run?
Our interactions are run through a variety of ways. I post comments, we link to reviews from people who have stayed with us (social proof), which in turn gets people to share with their friends and comment, in order to be part of what we are posting about. We also share photos and video of our product.
How far in advance are they planned?
The latest campaign was an 18 month campaign so we think a long way in advance.
How much of an increase in interactivity with the hotel have you seen from the latest Facebook campaign?
The increase has been simply massive; we can now connect with up to 800,000 people via Facebook in a single week. Some posts have connected with over 300,000 on their own. The posts over the past year have generated over 120,000 comments and 10,000s of shares, not to mention the likes.
Where do the ideas for the campaigns come from?
Lots of the ideas come from me and I listen and brainstorm with my friends, staff and management, as well as people I work with in the business.
Has your Facebook activity contributed to a rise in profit for the hotel?
Yes of course it has that was the whole point in embracing Facebook into our business marketing strategy.
