Experienced operator bids for Scottish hotel turnaround

A historic hotel in Caithness, northern Scotland, is set to reopen after an experienced new owner stepped in to take over.

The Portland Arms Hotel in Lybster is putting the final touches to its extensive refurbishment, after Kevin Ellis, who has previously run properties in London and Ross-shire took over to help change the fortunes of the hotel.

The hotel had four different owners over a 24-month period between 2011 and 2013 and has been closed for over three years.

Now with Ellis at the helm, he is aiming to make the hotel a popular venue for weddings when it opens in the spring.

With the refurbishment nearing completion, Ellis is now on the hunt for a head chef as a priority before he begins hiring the rest of the management team.

The Portland Arms will be Ellis’ first property in Caithness.
