Former Hilton CEO to launch chain of hotels in Ireland

Former Hilton chief executive Sir David Michels has partnered with the Royal Bank of Scotland to launch a new hotel brand — tipped to be called The Collection — in Ireland.

The brand will initially comprise at least 25 hotels with RBS’s Ulster Bank subsidiary as the main lender, according to a report in The Times newspaper.

Chairman of London & Capital and former deputy chairman of Marks & Spencer and easy Jet , Sir Dave Michels is said to be setting up the joint venture through Michels & Taylor, the hotel asset management company he runs with his ex-colleague from Hilton, Hugh Taylor.

The joint venture, which is expected to launch the brand in early 2014, will not own the hotels.
