Francisco Macedo began his hospitality career in 2000 whilst studying and planning to go into medicine. The hotel bug soon caught up with however and instead decided to study hotel management alongside a job at Pestana Hotels, where he learnt the ropes to management working across every department of the hotel.
At just 22, he was promoted to assistant F&B director and went on to manage several hotel openings in Africa, South America and Portugal. It wasn’t until 2010 that he came to the UK, initially signing up for just one year but after finding a role at Manor House Castle Combe, he was hooked.
After that he went on to work at the likes of Luton Hoo, The Manor at Weston on The Green and Stapleford Park before joining Bovey Castle in 2015.
The privately-owned Eden Hotel Collection acquired Bovey Castle in 2014 and embarked on an extensive £10m refurbishment programme. Since the acquisition, the property has gone on to be rated five-star status and awarded 3 AA Rosettes for its dining in the Great Western Restaurant in 2017.
In May 2017, Francisco was promoted to the role of general manager and given charge of the luxury property as it continued its rise to the top, and he brought in a new wave of innovative and creative ideas, many of which will come to fruition this year.
Francisco has also been nominated for The Champagne Academy as an Ambassador of Champagne.
