Gingerman Group recruits former Hotel du Vin manager to head up first foray into hotelkeeping

The Gingerman Group’s first foray into accommodation has proved to be an overnight success, with a new manager with heaps of boutique hotel experience driving forward its momentum.

The Ginger Pig in Hove opened 11 boutique bedrooms during the last half of 2017, after husband and wife team Ben and Pamela Mckellar bought the freehold of the Sussex building.

Now the bedrooms have received a 92% rating on Booking.com, with a number of high profile press articles praising the standards at the property helping to boost trade.

A new general manager was also attracted to the project at the start of the year, with Matt Denny joining to head up the team armed with experience from the likes of Hotel du Vin and Harbour Hotels.

He replaced long-standing general manager James Thomson who moved on at the end of last year to develop his own food and drink project in the city.

Alongside the bedrooms, The Ginger Pig closed for two weeks at the end of February for a refurbishment of the main public areas, marking the first full renovation to the ground floor since the Mckellars opened the pub in 2006.

The kitchen will be next to go under the knife, with ‘big plans’ due to be announced for 2019.
