A £675k renovation project to add to the bedroom stock at the Globe Inn hotel in Well-next-to-sea has been given the green light.

The project at the historic coaching inn is being headed up by owners Stephen and Antonia Bournes, who took over the hotel in 2013.

Now they will add 11 bedrooms to the offering at the Grade-II listed pub, bringing the total number of rooms to 18.

The renovation work has started and is expected to continue throughout the winter season with the new rooms available to book from spring 2018.

The development will also feature three ‘apart-hotel’ rooms with kitchenettes in a bid to target the self-catering holiday market.

Mr Bournes said: “Since we bought The Globe we always knew we wanted to invest long-term into this 17th century building.

“In those four years we have refurbished the bar and restaurant area, introduced the only rooftop terrace in Wells and created a place we hope visitors will want to visit time and time again.

Stephen and Antonia were previously owners of Southwold Pier in Suffolk.
