Hand Picked Hotels has appointed a new GM and set aside around £3 million for the refurbishment of the recently-acquired Fawsley Hall Hotel & Spa, chairman and chief executive Julia Hands told Boutique Hotelier.
The hotel group bought the Grade I listed hotel, located near Silverstone in Northamptonshire, at the end of August for just under £15 million from entrepreneur Simon Lowe.
Hands said the majority of staff would be kept on board at the hotel, but Mark Clayton, former GM at Hand Picked Hotels’ Crathorne Hall Hotel in North Yorkshire, had been brought on as general manager.
"He’s worked with us for many years, he knows Hand Picked and what we’re trying to achieve," added Hands.
She said the property, which brings Hand Picked Hotel’s portfolio to 20, “ticked all the boxes”.
“It’s in a very good, accessible location in the Midlands, in an area where we haven’t got another hotel close by. It’s got a fabulous historic background, it’s got a spa which is very nice to have. It’s not an essential part of what we’re buying, but certainly a positive to have one.
“It’s got good function and conferencing suite which is good for wedding and business, so it’s able to facilitate the type of business we do,” she explained.
However, Hands said the group had allocated around £3 million for upgrades to the property.
“It does need substantial investment, it’s quite tired in many areas but that’s something we can address over time without too much difficulty.
“The building is fine, the roof, so I think it’s mostly soft furnishings and fittings within the rooms,” said Hands, adding that Fawsley Hall would be marketed as part of the group’s porfolio immediately.
