Cockett’s Hotel and Restaurant, the 17th century former Quaker’s rest home in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is for sale with an asking price of £649,000 for the freehold through Christie + Co.
The hotel and restaurant is located in the busy market town of Hawes, which due to its location in the Dales and its close proximity to attractions such as the Wensleydale Cheese and Gayle Mill, Hardraw Force (England’s highest single-drop waterfall) and Aysgarth Falls, attracts a good number of visitors.
The area is also renowned as ‘Herriot Country’ in homage to the popular tales of the Yorkshire vet.
Today, this Grade II listed property is home to an eight-bedroom hotel and 26-cover restaurant.
The rooms — which consist of three recently-refurbished ‘superior’ rooms, two standard doubles, two four-poster rooms and a single — are popular with a range of guests.
Also included in the sale is a modern, two-bedroomed, two-storey house, at the rear of the property, which is currently used as owners’ accommodation.
David Lee, Regional Director of Christie says: “After owning and running Cockett’s Hotel and Restaurant for 12 years, Bob and Lesley Barber are looking forward to a well-earned retirement.
