Teenage hospitality apprentice Crystal Old has been named Hit Training’s Apprentice of the Year for the South of England.
Old, aged 18, beat off competition from more than 100 fellow apprentices in the region, and was praised for her “amazing” perseverance, dedication and performance.
Now working towards her Professional Cookery Level 3 qualification at the Yalbury Cottage Hotel & Restaurant in Dorchester, Old is hoping to become a fully-qualified chef.
“Crystal has achieved so much over the last 12 months and has really demonstrated an amazing commitment to her training and in the workplace,” said Alison Salmon, HIT area manager for Dorset.
“Despite being so young she’s shown incredible determination to succeed and we’re confident that she’s got a great future ahead of her.”
Old, who lives near Poole, was presented with an iPad at a “graduation ceremony” organised by HIT Training.
During the ceremony, apprentices from across Dorset received certificates of achievement to mark completion of their studies.
HIT offers hotel and catering apprenticeships at all levels and in all sectors; it has supported 40,000 learners at over 7000 employer sites across the country.
