The Cranleigh boutique in the Lake District has caused a Facebook frenzy by offering free use of the entire hotel as a prize in a competition being run on social media.
The 18-bedroom boutique has notched up an impressive 100,000 likes on Facebook and is now offering its online audience the chance to compete for free use of the hotel for a whole weekend, in a prize worth £8,500.
Owner Stephen Hargreaves announced in June 2013 that when the hotel’s social media page reached the 100,000-likes milestone, it would invite followers to enter the special competition, explaining in 20 words why they should be chosen as the winner.
The winner will be announced in two weeks, after a shortlist of 10 is published on Facebook and the ultimate decision left up the hotel’s followers.
The winner will receive full use of the five-star facilities for one whole weekend, including the boutique’s 18 bedrooms and a Champagne reception on arrival for all.
The hotel has already caused a stir on social media and was last month awarded the Best Use of Facebook award at the UK Social Media Awards.
Stephen Hargreaves said: “We have been looking forward to the ‘Ultimate Prize’ for 18 months and are finally in a position to choose a lucky winner!” said Stephen Hargreaves.
“Such a prize has never been given by a private hotel in the UK before, so we are obviously experiencing a huge level of engagement at the moment. As impatient as everybody is, we will be selecting a winner in the fairest way possible and can’t wait to welcome them to the hotel. ‘The Ultimate Prize’ has also been our way of saying ‘thank-you’ to everybody for their support on Facebook.”
