A husband and wife have entered the hotel market for the first time after making their first acquisition and relocating from Manchester to Cumbria to run The Sun Inn.
Iain and Jennifer Black, purchased the 17th century inn with the support of a six-figure investment from the Royal Bank of Scotland, taking advantage of the profitable business opportunity at a time when they were looking to retire.
The couple, from Altrincham near Manchester, both come from a background of hospitality, with Iain having previously been a general manager and Jennifer boasting years of experience in front of house.
The Sun Inn is located in Kirkby Lonsdale, between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales and is home to 11 boutique bedrooms and an award-winning restaurant.
The property employs a mixture of 30 part-time and full-time staff and attracts a strong trade year round.
Iain Black, co-owner of The Sun Inn, said: “We were at the stage of our lives when owning our first hotel was the right time for us both and we were prepared to relocate within the North West. We have built up years of experience within the hotel industry and the location of The Sun Inn swung it for us both as we immediately knew this centrally located boutique inn was the ideal business opportunity for us.”
