The Olive Tree restaurant at The Queensberry in Bath was handed its first star, with head chef Chris Cleghorn presented with the accolade. The hotel is owned and operated by Laurence and Helen Beere, who have been at the helm since acquiring the business in 2003.

A second Michelin Star was awarded to Moor Hall in Lancashire, with chef patron Mark Birchall collecting the recognition. Moor Hall was awarded one star last year, seven months after Birchall opened the seven-bedroom Grade-II listed hotel with business partners Andy and Tracey Bell.

There are now a total of 155 one Michelin star establishments, 20 two-star and five three-star in Great Britain and Ireland.
