Carlisle’s hotels are currently enjoying a busy season, thanks to the arrival of the Commonwealth Games in neighbouring Glasgow.
Since the Games have arrived in Glasgow, many of Carlisle’s hotels have been fully booked as spectators stop off in the city on their way to the event.
It seems many people have decided to take advantage of the cheaper hotel rates in Carlisle and take the train to Glasgow for the Games.
The Crown & Mitre has been fully booked and the Hallmark Hotel has also reported that many guests have been staying as a result of their sons and daughters competing in the Games.
Speaking to In Cumbria, Gemma Turner, of the Crown Hotel in Wetheral, said: “We’ve definitely seen an increase because of the Games with people stopping over on the way to Glasgow and we even had one of the teams stay with us.”
