Hotelympia has revealed the three finalists competing for its 2014 Design Award, which recognises hotels that boast “modern-day design excellence”.
The London Edition designed by Yabu Pushelberg and Ian Schrager; ME by Meliã designed by Foster+Partners and the Great Northern Hotel designed by Archer Humphryes Architects have all made it through to the final heats of the competition.
The finalists will be featured on a dedicated display wall situated in the Design Gallery, alongside the Design Stage, throughout the four-day show taking place at London Excel from April 28 to May 1.
The overall winner will be crowned on Hotelympia’s main Stage at 3.30pm on Monday April 28.
The judging process is being overseen by a panel of industry experts including designLSM co-founder Steve LaBouchardiere, Scott Brownrigg director Una Barac, Fox Linton Associates design director Dennis Irvine and GS Magazine editor Stirling Johnstone. Jan Wilson, managing director of RPW Design – the company behind 2012’s winning Royal Suite at London’s Mandarin Oriental – is also part of the judging team.
Hotels shortlisted for the award included The Crowne Plaza in Glasgow, for successfully creating a "local product for the global traveller"; The Sands Hotel in Margate, a "charming seafront boutique"; Dormy House in the Cotswolds, with its individually designed rooms and exceptional new spa and Qbic London City, a non-conforming urban hotel designed with "humour and great spirit".
