InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is “exploring opportunities” for a second property under its Hotel Indigo brand in Manchester.
The operator already has one Manchester hotel in the pipeline at Victoria Station, but vice president brand management for upscale and luxury brands — Europe Tom Rowntree told Boutique Hotelier that the company is looking at a second.
“We’re open in Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and of course the three Hotel Indigos in London and we will soon be opening another Hotel Indigo in Edinburgh, so we’ve got some really exciting growth opportunities,” Rowntree said.
In its 15-hotel strong Europe pipeline, a total of six Hotel Indigos are in the UK, including: Edinburgh Princes Street; Manchester Victoria Station; Birmingham Waterloo Street; York; Cardiff and Brighton, which was announced in April.
“We’ve got strategic mapping of the whole of Europe looking at where Hotel Indigo could go. The focus Hotel Indigo requires is really intense because it’s so important to get it right in that authentic manner.
"So what we’ve looked at is potentially how many Hotel Indigos could each city withstand, what’s the demand for the branded boutique sector, but also what micro-locations, what street corners do we need to be on within those cities,” Rowntree explained.
