Jayson Perfect joined Butcombe Brewery, part of the Liberation Group, from Palmer’s Brewery as managing director in February 2017 and has since played an integral part in spearheading the Group’s expansion over the past 12 months; transforming Butcombe from brewery to firm players within the boutique hotel scene in the south west.
Upon Perfect’s arrival, Butcombe had recently diversified from its brewing trade with the acquisition of its first pub with rooms – The Methuen Arms in Corsham, Wiltshire – establishing what was set to be an entirely new chapter within the hotel trade for the Brewery. Perfect’s vision for The Methuen Arms was clear, driving forward the importance of a complete overhaul of the popular local drinking hole to create a boutique hotel and dining destination in its own right.
The Methuen Arms reopened in November 2017 as a full-service pub, restaurant and hotel with 19 bedrooms.
The success of the Methuen’s transformation was clear from the outset, experiencing a 20% increase in revenue growth on its rooms alone in the first three months following its official launch, plus a 32% growth in total revenue for the hotel overall.
Perfect quickly saw the opportunities that lay ahead for Butcombe Brewery within the boutique hotel trade, which he quickly jumped upon – pioneering the Brewery’s expansion with the acquisition of six further pubs with rooms across the South West of England in his first 12 months as managing director. To date, 100 new bedrooms have been created across Butcombe’s portfolio, with plans to double this number with further acquisitions in 2018/19.
