The Lalit group is set to open its first UK hotel in London, transforming a grammar school next to the capital’s iconic Tower Bridge.
The former St Olave’s grammar school is set to become a 70-bedroom boutique hotel and will be run by India’s premiere hotel group, Lalit Suri Hospitality, marking the brand’s first international venture.
The hotel is now undergoing extensive renovations to become a luxury five-star hotel and will be due to open its doors in March 2016.
The hospitality group, which currently owns 13 hotels across India, bought the property in 2012 for £15m and is now investing a further £40m into transforming it into a hotel.
Jyotsna Suri, chairperson Lalit Suri told Times Of India: "The building is a 175 year old listed heritage property in the heart of London. We don’t intend to change the character of this masterpiece but will only restore it to turn it into the hotel. This will be our first hotel outside India.”
