Landmark Lynmouth inn fresh from TV fame on lookout for new operators

An historic coaching inn in Lynmouth, which recently featured in a popular TV series, has gone up for sale.

The Blue Ball Inn, believed to date back to the 18th century and named after the practice of raising a blue ball on a pole for guests to hail passing coaches, is on the market for £1.445m as its current owners look to retire.

The property is situated within walking distance to Wind Hill and Exmoor, which featured on TV series The Last Kingdom.

The Grade-II listed Lynmouth inn, which has undergone a number of refurbishments, is popular with hikers and history enthusiasts, generating net sales in excess of £720k per annum.

The property has 16 bedrooms, five public areas including a 120-cover restaurant and a one/two bedroom flat.

Ed Jefferson from Colliers International’s Hotels team said: “Our clients acquired the property in 2007 when it was known as the Exmoor Sandpiper, before they embarked on an ambitious overhaul which included restoring the inn’s former name.

“Due to a retirement, this profitable business is now on the market for the first time in a decade.”
