The latest four-star Motel One boutique is gearing up for its autumn launch, as designers put the finishing touches to the new 222-bedroom hotel in the north.
The new hotel will be located in Newcastle’s city centre and Kier Property has appointed Patrick Parsons to oversee the development of the £13m boutique, which will be managed by German hotel chain Motel One.
Motel One currently has a portfolio consisting of more than 50 hotels across Europe and recently opened its first London property, in Tower Hill. Originally born in Germany, the company’s aim was to position itself as a low budget design brand.
The Motel One project in Newcastle is the latest addition to Patrick Parsons’ hotel portfolio, which also includes Drayton Manor Park Hotel in Staffordshire and Hotel Indigo and the Easy Hotel in Glasgow.
Due to its setting within a conservation area of the city, the refurbishment of the existing building has been carefully developed to take the existing archaeology and original features into account.
Bruce Horsburgh, associate director of structures at Patrick Parsons, said: "Working in existing buildings always presents challenges, but we are working hard to protect the original features and to carefully monitor our work due to any items unearthed that may have archaeological importance.
"Motel One will no doubt be an excellent addition to Newcastle’s thriving hotel sector, so we’re delighted to be playing a key role in this project."
The budget boutique chain has ambitious plans in the pipeline. By 2017, Motel One wishes to expand its network of locations to 74 hotels and around 18.000 rooms with already 5.700 rooms outside of Germany.
