Laura Ashley The Belsfield Lake District
Opened in: July 2014
Owned by: Laura Ashley and managed by Corus Hotels.
The story: Almost a year after the first ever luxury hotel was launched, fashion brand Laura Ashley entered the hotel market for a second time, opening Laura Ashley The Belsfield in Cumbria on the cusp of Lake Windermere. The hotel is run under a licensing agreement with Corus Hotels and re-launched under its new name in July, after a £3.5m refurbishment of its 62 bedrooms and public areas.
Why we like it: The Grade II listed building dates back to 1845, when it was first built as a private residence for Baroness Von Sternberg, before being converted into a hotel in 1892. Its extensive history gives it a new edge of interest. The hotel is decorated throughout with the brand’s iconic muted-palette furnishings and also gives guests the option to buy anything featured in the bedrooms online.
Andrew Clayton, CEO of Corus Hotels, said: “We were privileged to be invited by Laura Ashley to manage their first hotel, The Manor at Elstree, and we were involved with this project from the design phase through to completion and launch.”
