The Malmaison hotel chain could be the potential new owner of the original Scotland Yard headquarters in London, in a deal expected to be completed in a few weeks’ time.
The British group, consisting of 13 boutique hotels in cities such as Birmingham, London and Oxford, is expected to buy the Grade-II listed building for a rumoured £200m and transform it into a luxury hotel.
It will be a new five-star establishment on Pall Mall named Great Scotland Yard, part of a development programme of government buildings in Whitehall. The Corinthia Hotel in Whitehall Place was a former political stronghold, and Admiralty Arch on the Mall is also being converted into a hotel.
Galliard Homes, the London-based development group which owns the Scotland Yard site, expects to complete the conversion in 2016.
Plans for the seven-floor building include 235 bedrooms, a ballroom and a high end restaurant.
