Masked gunmen break into Soho boutique hotel

Two masked gunman broke into Dean Street Townhouse in Soho yesterday, threatening staff before fleeing with cash and mobile phones.

Police were called after the armed raiders, who witnesses said were wearing hoodies and spoke in Eastern European accents, broke into the hotel in Soho shortly after 3am and demanded money.

They tied up one male employee at the hotel and threatened others before running off.

The Georgian Townhouse is housed in a four-story Grade-II Listed building in the busy Soho area of London and is a popular choice for celebrities including Kate Moss, Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Stone.

It is part of the exclusive Soho House group and was opened in 2009 by London businessmen Nick Jones and Richard Caring. As well as a 39-bedroom hotel, it is home to a spa and restaurant, which features works by Tracey Emin.

Met Detective Superintendent Jess Ruddell said the robbery was very frightening for staff and left one man needing treatment for shock.

“This was a very serious incident and we are working round the clock to identify the offenders,” she said. “Staff were threatened with a long-barrelled firearm and were very shaken.

“The suspects are two men who were described as speaking with East European accents and wearing white hoodies. It was very frightening. I want to appeal for any witnessess or anyone with information to contact us.”
