Gidleigh Park, part of Andrew Brownsword Hotels, is celebrating after its restaurant under the guidance of Michael Wignall has been awarded two Michelin stars following the release of the Michelin Guide 2017.
Having only started at Gidleigh Park in January, this marks the first year that Michelin has evaluated Wignall’s Gidleigh Park menus and given them this stamp of approval.
The full list of those commended in the Michelin Guide was revealed today at an event in London, which was the first time the awards have been announced live since the Guide was introduced in 1911.
Wignall commented: “We’re delighted to have been awarded two stars by Michelin, arguably the most revered restaurant guide amongst chefs, restaurant critics and our guests. Since arriving at Gidleigh Park in January this year, the team has worked tirelessly and it’s great to see their efforts recognised with two stars from the Michelin Guide”.
Stephanie Hocking, CEO Andrew Brownsword Hotels, comments: “Congratulations to Michael for being awarded two Michelin stars after only nine months at Gidleigh Park. Reviews from our guests have been consistently excellent since the first day team Wignall took the helm. We are absolutely thrilled to receive recognition from Michelin at this level, it is so well deserved and we are extremely proud of what has been achieved by Michael and the whole team at Gidleigh Park.”
Gidleigh Park has now held two Michelin stars since 1999, first won by Michael Caines, and now awarded to Michael Wignall, with this year’s award the 19th time the restaurant has been awarded two stars.
