A hotel in Portstewart that closed mysteriously in 2012 without any prior warning is to be relaunched this week under new ownership.

Me and Mrs Jones, a 20-bed boutique hotel and wine bar on the north coast, first opened five years ago and closed just a few months later, to the surprise of tourists and local.

Now the property looks set to reopen under the ownership of Mary McCloy following a complete revamp, just in time for the Irish Open to kick off.

The hotel confirmed it would be opening this week and posted a series of teasers on its social media pages over the weekend.

Local councillor Norman Hillis said he was “delighted” to see the hotel reopening and said its closure was a “big loss to the tourist industry in the North Coast”.
