A New Forest hotelier has been awarded Master Innholder status this month, a title that is given out to a handful of the most respected members of the industry around the UK.
James Hiley-Jones is operations director for Greenclose Hotels, the parent company of Careys Manor Hotel in Brockenhurst and The Montagu Arms in Beaulieu and joined the company’s trainee management programme back in 1993.
After completing his training, Hiley-Jones went on to work in a series of four- and five-star hotels before returning to The Montagu Arms as general manager in 2001. He is a trained chef, restaurant manager and boasts a qualification in hospitality management having studied marketing, sales, law and facilities management.
The Master Innholders is a well respected industry body set up to influence standards and extend high levels of professionalism within the sector. The Master Innholders also promotes continued research and development in areas that affect hotel management, including training the next generation of hoteliers.
Following a rigorous interview and the submission of a 1,500 word paper demonstrating his hotel management ability as well as his continued commitment to improving the standards of the industry, Hiley-Jones joins an elite group of just 120 Master Innholders in the UK.
He says: “The Master Innholders has always been at the peak of the hotel and hospitality industry, so to be recognised by such a highly esteemed body gives me a fantastic sense of pride; I feel very honoured.
“With a real passion for the very best standards of customer service, food and drink, I have been extremely lucky to spend much of my career at the Montagu Arms Hotel and Careys Manor Hotel, supported by many exceptional individuals in my team through the years. What’s more, working in a unique environment such as the New Forest is something that I will never take for granted.”
