A former European martial arts champion has been appointed as manager of The Edge health and fitness club at Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa in Newmarket.
The hotel, recently upgraded from black to four red stars by the AA, is currently undergoing an investment of £350,000 in upgrading its leisure facilities.
Alan is a former Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwan Do champion and also holds qualifications as a personal trainer and in sports massage, with six years experience in the leisure industry and fitness management altogether.
The 77-bedroom hotel has benefited from £12m investment over the past three years including additional bedrooms and a new £5m luxury spa. It also has a 2AA Rosette restaurant, Squires, and has conference and banqueting facilities for up to 180 delegates.
The revamp of the hotel’s leisure area includes new cardio, free weights and resistance equipment, a dance studio, an indoor swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and steam room.
Alan said: “This is an exciting time to join The Edge. The new facilities are going to be fantastic and the members are really going to enjoy The Edge coming into a new age.
“I want to bring the members the best service, expertise and experience possible. I will also be adding an exciting new programme of activities and classes, to help all members achieve their goals.”
Noel Byrne, chief executive of Bedford Lodge Hotel, said: “To have someone of such high calibre join our team is absolutely fantastic. We are continuing to invest in our facilities with newly refurbished changing rooms and fabulous new gym equipment.”
