A new hotel in London, operated under franchise with Intercontinental Hotels Group, is employing the services of a dog to greet guests and visitors.
Staybridge Suites London Vauxhall opened last month, has 93 suites, and offers views of landmarks such as Westminster Palace and the London Eye.
However, its standout feature is Waggers, described by IHG as a “hotel dog who will greet you after a hard day in the office”.
The three-month-old miniature labradoodle has been trained to ensure he adapts to his new role and way of life as part of the hotel’s reception team.
“Labradoodles are renowned to be sociable, obedient dogs who enjoy company and have a loving temperament,” hotel manager Giovanni Valentini told the Daily Mail.
“Waggers has integrated well and is quickly adapting to hotel life. He is most definitely a wonderful furry asset to the team.”
While the hotel’s decision to bring the dog onboard may appear to be a novel idea, it is by no means the first time a hotel has offered a canine welcome to guests.
Aloft Asheville Downtown, in the US state of North Carolina, has an adopt-a-dog programme, under which guests are greeted by a dog wearing an ‘Adopt Me’ vest when they check in.
