New York hotelier Michael Achenbaum is edging closer to launching his first European property, with the opening of The Curtain in London in May 2017.
The hotel, restaurant and members club, which features a rooftop restaurant and pool, will add to the vibrant hotel scene in Shoreditch, East London, when it opens its doors in the summer.
The property, situated on the corner of Curtain Road, has been designed by global hospitality interior design firm Duncan Miller Ullman and is said to ‘encompass New York’s modern industrial feel’.
Acclaimed New York chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson will launch his iconic Red Rooster restaurant at the hotel, alongside an all-day taqueria and bar.
Achenbaum says of his first venture in the European market: “We spent almost 10 years seeking locations throughout London, with the last seven years specifically focused on the emerging East London area. It’s in our DNA to create hotels in neighbourhoods that are not only ahead of the curve but also in areas that are growing. The Curtain is that vision come to life in Europe.”
Each of the 120 bedrooms features an eclectic style, with exposed brick walls, hardwood flooring and modern lighting contrasting with custom-designed artwork by British rock ‘n’ roll photographer.
From 5-7pm each day a bartender will arrive with a sundowner trolley, to mix cocktails in-room for guests.
A 24-hour gym, a collaboration with The Vault Gym, early morning yoga classes in the hotel’s ballroom, plus a wellness area complete with steam room and two treatment rooms are some of the facilities on offer.
Up on the roof, a Moroccan-styled heated pool and all-day brasserie LIDO are situated, with a retractable roof allowing for all-year dining and drinking.
The club at The Curtain gives its members access to all the above, with club spaces open daily from 8pm to 2am.
Members-only events, such as secret gigs, DJs and acoustic performances, will be programmed throughout the week in LP, The Curtain’s Live Performance room.
A members-only co-working space will open in autumn 2017 on the ground floor of the hotel.
